Looking for a pollinator magnet? Praire Milkweed (Asclepias sullivantii) attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees to the garden with sweet, fragrant blooms. Small clusters of pink flowers bloom in the summer, providing nectar to local pollinators. It may have smaller flowers than other milkweeds, but it has the best foliage of them all. Smooth, almost succulent-like leaves look appealing all season long and serve as a food source for caterpillars.

Milkweeds, including Prairie Milkweed, are essential for the Monarch lifecycle. Their relationship includes more than just swapping nectar for pollination. Caterpillars exclusively feed on their leaves, which are filled with cardenolides. Cardenolides are stored in the bodies of Monarch caterpillars and butterflies as a defense against predators. Without Milkweed, we wouldn't have Monarchs!

Months late and only 2/3 survived

The milkweed I ordered came 4-5 months late. They arrived all roughed up with soil spilling out of the cups and roots looking very vulnerable. I put all three in the ground right away and only two survived.

The plants arrived in perfect condition. About 15 inches tall. However rabbits or deer have chewed them down to the ground. Maybe they will recover but I doubt it. I appreciate how you send out good-sized plants.

Hello! Thank you for your feedback. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your plants but sad to hear that the animals enjoyed them too! We do offer at 60-day guarantee on all of our plants. If you received your plants within that timeframe, please send us photos of what remains to claims@greatgardenplants.com and we can take a closer look. We do offer a handful of deer resistant plants, you can check those out here: https://www.greatgardenplants.com/collections/deer-resistant
