It's easy to fall in love with 'Cinderella' Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) - just ask the Monarchs! The pale pink buds bloom into vibrant, rose-pink flowers that persist from midsummer to early fall.  The flowers are heavily laden with nectar for butterflies, who in turn, disperse their pollen sacs. It grows upright clumps that reach up to four feet tall with handsome narrow leaves. The blooms last for over three months, and when they finish, crescent-shaped seed pods take their place. Flowers are followed by appealing seed pods in the fall that are filled with fluffy, wind-dispersed seeds. The blooms and milkweed pods are excellent in cut arrangements, but be aware of the toxic milky sap it exudes when cut. 

Milkweeds, including 'Cinderella' Swamp Milkweed, are essential for the Monarch lifecycle. Their relationship includes more than just swapping nectar for pollination. Caterpillars exclusively feed on their leaves, which are filled with cardenolides. Cardenolides are stored in the bodies of Monarch caterpillars and butterflies as a defense against predators. Without Milkweed, we wouldn't have Monarchs!

Care & Planting Guide

After your plants have arrived:

The plants in this box have just spent a lot of time being jostled around in the dark and must be unboxed right away. Unpack the entire box, removing packaging material and plants. Remove any plastic covering the pot and/or soil surface and check if the soil is dry. Water anything that is dry or looks wilted. Any plants that have come unpotted during shipping can be replaced in their pots and their roots covered with soil.

Place plants in a cool, shaded spot out of direct sunlight for 24- 48 hours after unpacking them. This allows them a recovery and acclimation period before planting. If you must hold them longer, place them out of direct sunlight, wind, heat, and cold. Check daily for watering.

Shortages/Damages

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has devised a system to provide gardeners with a basic guide to plant hardiness – how much winter cold a plant can withstand. The Hardiness Zone Map system divides the United States and Canada into numbered zones based on lowest average winter temperature. Even within a zone, different micro-climates exist, such as large urban areas which may be warmer or land situated at different elevations.

The Hardiness Zone Map is a valuable tool but it is not foolproof. There are a variety of factors that can influence the hardiness of a given plant in a garden. These factors include: soil type, drainage, snow cover, exposure to wind, winter, rainfall (or lack of), as well as fluctuations in temperature.

Orders within the 48 contiguous states are shipped via Fed Ex Home Delivery Service, which delivers weekly Tuesday-Saturday. All orders require a street address.  We are unable to ship to Alaska, Hawaii, APO/FPO military address or PO boxes.

Do not purchase from this company, go elsewhere with your money!

So this is a follow up from my last review, I asked them not to send me another sick plant as a replacement and they most definitely sent me another plant completely infested with spider mites again. In my last review they tried to say “ We apologize you received a plant that was not up to our standards. Some factors like shipping and handling are out of our control.” it had nothing to do with shipping and handling but it’s within their greenhouse or wherever they keep these plants, there’s a very clear infestation. My first plant was also very wilted which again didn’t seem to be within shipping and handling issues but it being not watered at all before leaving their facility. Again, go somewhere else with your money. Do not spend it here to potentially get a sick plant that could make your other plants sick in your garden.

Received a wilted plant full of spider mites

Be careful ordering from here unless you want spider mites and a sick plant. I’ve emailed them and it says it may take some days for them to get back to me. This is highly unacceptable to be selling sick infested plants.
