With fragrant, nectar-rich flowers, it's no wonder pollinators find 'Ice Ballet' Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) irresistible! Clusters of bright white flowers bloom on tall, upright stems, like a beacon for native pollinators. Flowers are followed by appealing seed pods in the fall that are filled with fluffy, wind-dispersed seeds. The blooms and milkweed pods are excellent in cut arrangements, but be aware of the toxic milky sap it exudes when cut. 

Milkweeds, including 'Ice Ballet' Swamp Milkweed, are essential for the Monarch lifecycle. Their relationship includes more than just swapping nectar for pollination. Caterpillars exclusively feed on their leaves, which are filled with cardenolides. Cardenolides are stored in the bodies of Monarch caterpillars and butterflies as a defense against predators. Without Milkweed, we wouldn't have Monarchs!

After your plants have arrived:

The plants in this box have just spent a lot of time being jostled around in the dark and must be unboxed right away. Unpack the entire box, removing packaging material and plants. Remove any plastic covering the pot and/or soil surface and check if the soil is dry. Water anything that is dry or looks wilted. Any plants that have come unpotted during shipping can be replaced in their pots and their roots covered with soil.

Place plants in a cool, shaded spot out of direct sunlight for 24- 48 hours after unpacking them. This allows them a recovery and acclimation period before planting. If you must hold them longer, place them out of direct sunlight, wind, heat, and cold. Check daily for watering.

Shortages/Damages

Refunds

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has devised a system to provide gardeners with a basic guide to plant hardiness – how much winter cold a plant can withstand. Milkweed in my Garden

I bought an orange & a white variety of milkweed. They are hardy and are doing well. Did not miss a beat once planted. No flower yet, but it's September in Seattle. I think it will be good for next season, even if I need to buy another next year.

I planted these lovely plants in a “city” space (i do not have my own garden) so i am not sure of the quality of the dirt. I go and keep the dirt clear and water the plants but as far as the quality of the dirt i planted them in- i am unsure- Im just hoping for the best. they seem to be doing fair. The leaves of one has a little discoloration but still carrying on. thank you again.
