Plant Size Info

You may recognize this flower from arrangements, but this native perennial also makes a spectacular garden plant! It grows as a clump of very sturdy stems and appealing narrow foliage. Come summer, those majestic pink flower spikes start to appear. Not only do they bring a fantastic summery color to the garden, they also attract lots of pollinators. Be sure to plant enough to enjoy indoors in a vase as well as in the garden!

Though this perennial is extremely hardy, it definitely benefits from being kept dry in winter. Leaves stems in place to provide additional protection for the crown.

Care & Planting Guide

After your plants have arrived:

The plants in this box have just spent a lot of time being jostled around in the dark and must be unboxed right away. Unpack the entire box, removing packaging material and plants. Remove any plastic covering the pot and/or soil surface and check if the soil is dry. Water anything that is dry or looks wilted. Any plants that have come unpotted during shipping can be replaced in their pots and their roots covered with soil.

Place plants in a cool, shaded spot out of direct sunlight for 24- 48 hours after unpacking them. This allows them a recovery and acclimation period before planting. If you must hold them longer, place them out of direct sunlight, wind, heat, and cold. Check daily for watering.

USDA Hardiness Zones

USDA Hardiness Zones Map

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has devised a system to provide gardeners with a basic guide to plant hardiness – how much winter cold a plant can withstand. The Hardiness Zone Map system divides the United States and Canada into numbered zones based on lowest average winter temperature. Even within a zone, different micro-climates exist, such as large urban areas which may be warmer or land situated at different elevations.

The Hardiness Zone Map is a valuable tool but it is not foolproof. There are a variety of factors that can influence the hardiness of a given plant in a garden. These factors include: soil type, drainage, snow cover, exposure to wind, winter, rainfall (or lack of), as well as fluctuations in temperature.

When you are on a plant page, scroll down until you see the bold "Hardiness" text.

Burned before it got to me

Didn’t have a good shipping experience. I really hate how y’all staple the plastic covering to the plant pots and make it very hard to remove. My plant was suffocated by the time it got to me.

Hello! We’re sorry that you received plants that are not up to our standards. We try our best to provide excellent plants, but some factors, like shipping and handling, are outside our control. That’s why we have a 60-day guarantee on all of our orders. Please email your order number and pictures of your plants to to start the claims process. We look forward to helping!

Please note, we don't recommend removing the staple, but cutting around the staple to remove the plastic securing the plants! We will keep your feedback in mind for the future. Happy gardening!

The one that didn't live
