Care & Planting Guide

After your plants have arrived:

The plants in this box have just spent a lot of time being jostled around in the dark and must be unboxed right away. Unpack the entire box, removing packaging material and plants. Remove any plastic covering the pot and/or soil surface and check if the soil is dry. Water anything that is dry or looks wilted. Any plants that have come unpotted during shipping can be replaced in their pots and their roots covered with soil.

Place plants in a cool, shaded spot out of direct sunlight for 24- 48 hours after unpacking them. This allows them a recovery and acclimation period before planting. If you must hold them longer, place them out of direct sunlight, wind, heat, and cold. Check daily for watering.

USDA Hardiness Zones

USDA Hardiness Zones Map

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has devised a system to provide gardeners with a basic guide to plant hardiness – how much winter cold a plant can withstand. The Hardiness Zone Map system divides the United States and Canada into numbered zones based on lowest average winter temperature. Even within a zone, different micro-climates exist, such as large urban areas which may be warmer or land situated at different elevations.

The Hardiness Zone Map is a valuable tool but it is not foolproof. There are a variety of factors that can influence the hardiness of a given plant in a garden. These factors include: soil type, drainage, snow cover, exposure to wind, winter, rainfall (or lack of), as well as fluctuations in temperature.

When you are on a plant page, scroll down until you see the bold "Hardiness" text.

Looking good

Purchased five different colors. This one adapted well

Wildly different definitions of 1qt plants

I am finding the 1 qt. sizes sent from GGP to be very hit or miss. See the photos of two 1 qt. specimens of the Royal Raspberry Hummingbird mint.
One looks like a full 1 qt plant, the other looks like it’s missing the left half of the plant, as if it were divided to be that size. I hope in time the half plant restores its habit, but it seems like luck of the draw, unfortunately.

We’re sorry you’re not satisfied with your plants! On each product page and our plant sizes page, we note that all of our plants are young. The size of our plants varies depending on the time of year and whether they were recently trimmed. The most important thing when purchasing plants, online or in garden centers, is a full and robust root system, which we prioritize. Trimming only encourages stronger root development! All orders are covered by our 60-day guarantee, so please reach out to to start the claims process if necessary.

I'm really impressed by how well the plants are packaged - this was in great shape when received. So far it's doing great where I planted it.

My plant arrived very healthy. I didn’t get a chance to plant for a couple weeks, but it started blooming anyway. Once it was planted, it grew and has many more blooms now. It’s a beautiful color
